A Facebook post from a local emergency agency announced deployment of a new specialized vehicle and warned residents not to mistake it for a fire response when its ladder is extended.
The post identified the vehicle as the Mobile Elevated Atmospheric Surveillance and Cloud Camera Installation Response Unit, or M.E.A.S.C.C.I.R.U., and said it is part of the agency’s new Cloud Nine-One-One™ surveillance system.
Posting with a joking tone, the agency said it could have called the vehicle “the camera truck” but instead produced a 47-page policy manual, held three committee meetings and designed a logo. “So if you see us with the ladder up, don’t panic,” the post said, adding the crew are not rescuing cats, fighting fires or filming a movie.
Cloud-based camera systems are increasingly used by municipal agencies for traffic monitoring and public-safety purposes. The agency did not provide additional operational details in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
