Vicksburg police urge residents to celebrate Fourth responsibly

The Vicksburg Police Department urged residents to prioritize safety as they celebrate the Fourth of July, posting a set of precautions on social media aimed at reducing injuries and traffic problems during the holiday.

In the post, the department advised people to leave fireworks to professionals when possible, never drive under the influence and plan for a sober ride home. Officers also told residents to supervise children closely around fireworks, pools and busy streets, be patient on the roads and watch for increased traffic and pedestrians. The department asked people to look out for neighbors and report suspicious activity.

Vicksburg is a city on the Mississippi River and, like many communities, sees heightened travel, grilling and public fireworks displays during the Independence Day holiday. Police departments commonly issue reminders like this to reduce preventable injuries, crashes and other safety incidents associated with holiday celebrations.

The department closed its message by wishing residents a safe, happy and blessed Fourth of July, and encouraged everyone to “celebrate responsibly.” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
