Vicksburg police join AKA chapter to dedicate Ivy Rose Garden
Vicksburg Police Department said on its Facebook page that officers joined members of the Mu Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for the dedication of the Ivy Rose Garden honoring the chapter’s charter members and their contributions to the Vicksburg community.
The department said it is “always proud to support events that celebrate service, history, and the people who continue to make a positive impact in our community,” and offered congratulations to the Mu Xi Omega Chapter on the dedication.
Alpha Kappa Alpha, founded in 1908 at Howard University, is the oldest historically Black sorority, and its local chapters frequently organize community service, education and commemorative events. The Mu Xi Omega Chapter is the local chapter referenced by the department; the garden dedication recognizes the role charter members have played in community life in Vicksburg.
Public safety agencies and civic organizations often partner on such events to strengthen community relations and honor local history. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
