Jackson police investigate fatal shooting at Pine Garden Apartments

JACKSON — Jackson police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead Tuesday night at an apartment complex on Rebel Woods Drive, police said.

Officers with Precinct 1 responded about 9:23 p.m. to a report of an aggravated assault at Pine Garden Apartments in the 200 block of Rebel Woods Drive, according to the department. When officers arrived, they found Jakori Smith, 20, lying on a sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives with the department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit and members of the Mobile Crime Unit were called to the scene. Investigators recovered multiple shell casings and said the suspects were described as three Black males; no vehicle description was available. The case remains under investigation, police said.
