Vicksburg police investigate crash injuring motorcyclist

VICKSBURG, Mississippi — The Vicksburg Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash that injured a motorcyclist Thursday at the intersection of First North Street and Clay Street, the department said.

Officers responded June 29 after reports of a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle, the department said. The motorcycle operator, identified as Marlon Robinson, sustained injuries and was taken to Merit Health River Region before being airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for further treatment.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as Laquita Smith, was transported to the Vicksburg Police Department as part of the ongoing investigation, police said. The department did not provide additional details about the cause of the crash or the condition of those involved.

Civilian and law enforcement motor-vehicle crashes involving motorcycles can result in serious injuries because riders lack the protection of an enclosed vehicle. The Vicksburg Police Department said the circumstances remain under investigation. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
