Two K-9 teams certify in narcotics, firearms detection

Two K-9 teams from a local department certified in narcotics and firearms detection after attending a certification test hosted by the Mobile Police Department on July 30, 2026, a department Facebook post said.

Officer Jennifer Callais and K-9 Cosmo certified in narcotics and firearms detection, and Officer Brandon Callais and K-9 Trea certified in narcotics detection, the post said. Both teams are now certified through the United Police Working Dog Association (UPWDA).

The post said certification through a recognized agency such as UPWDA is a yearly requirement for detection teams to ensure the accuracy of their odor recognition. It said odor recognition tests are set and scored by master trainers and are conducted in multiple scenarios, including buildings, vehicles, open areas and luggage.

Officials thanked the Mobile Police Department and UPWDA for hosting the teams. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
