Vicksburg police assisted agents from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics during a traffic stop that escalated on July 21 in the area of Mission 66 and Alcorn Drive, the Vicksburg Police Department said in a Facebook post.
According to the department, agents attempted to stop a vehicle at about 11 a.m., but the driver did not stop and fled before the vehicle came to a halt on Alcorn Drive. After the vehicle stopped, the post said, a passenger exited while armed with a firearm and ran on foot into a nearby wooded area.
Investigators with the Vicksburg Police Department Narcotics Unit and agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics pursued the passenger on foot. The foot pursuit ended in the area of McAuley Drive and Hildegard Terrace, the department said. The driver was taken into custody by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
The Vicksburg Police Department said there is no ongoing threat to the public and that the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics is leading the investigation.
