Authorities seize meth, firearms in Lauderdale County narcotics raid

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. — Deputies with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit seized illegal drugs and several firearms during a search warrant at a Powell Road residence on May 15, officials said.

Lauderdale County sheriff’s deputies and narcotics agents executed the warrant at about 5:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Powell Road, the sheriff’s department said. Authorities recovered approximately one ounce of methamphetamine and several firearms that are believed to be stolen.

Coby Stewart, 44, was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm, the sheriff’s department said. Bond was set at $100,000. Officials said Stewart also had an outstanding bench warrant and is being held without bail on that charge.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department said the narcotics investigation remains active and additional charges are possible. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
