Tupelo man charged with four counts of credit card fraud

Kelvin L. Phillips, 34, of Tupelo, was arrested May 2 and charged with four counts of credit card fraud after investigators traced unauthorized purchases to a missing card, the Tupelo Police Department said.

Police said a report was filed March 13 after a victim discovered a credit card was missing and later found the card had been used multiple times at businesses in Tupelo without permission.

Authorities said officers arrested Phillips following the investigation. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen set Phillips’ bond at $10,000 on May 3, the department said. The case will be presented to the Lee County grand jury, police added.

Credit card fraud typically involves using another person’s payment card without authorization to make purchases or withdraw funds and can result in criminal charges and restitution obligations if a defendant is convicted. A grand jury will determine whether prosecutors should bring felony charges to trial. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
