Police arrest suspect in Hattiesburg teen’s fatal shooting
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Police arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Sunday evening, the Hattiesburg Police Department said.
Authorities identified the suspect as 23-year-old Alexander Del Pilar Trujillo of Jones County. Trujillo was taken into custody in Jasper County and is being held there pending transport back to Hattiesburg to face charges related to the shooting, police said.
Detectives said they were able to narrow their search after receiving a tip about Trujillo’s whereabouts. The department thanked the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Task Force for their assistance in the investigation and arrest, police said.
Hattiesburg is a city in southern Mississippi and is home to the University of Southern Mississippi. The U.S. Marshals Task Force commonly assists local agencies in locating and apprehending suspects who cross jurisdictional lines. The investigation remains ongoing.
