Starkville firefighters rescue kitten from storm pipe
STARKVILLE, Mississippi — Firefighters rescued a kitten Thursday after it became trapped inside a storm pipe beneath a roadway on Lampkin Street, the Starkville Fire Department said.
Crews from Station 1 worked with Starkville Police Department Animal Control to reach the animal, which officials said was unable to climb out on its own. Authorities said the rescue required patience and teamwork, and crews were able to safely bring the kitten back to the surface.
Officials said the kitten was cold, wet and shaken but is now doing well and receiving care. The animal is expected to be made available for adoption through the Humane Society once it is ready, officials said.
Fire departments and animal control agencies frequently coordinate on rescues of trapped or injured animals, providing both technical assistance and emergency care before transfer to shelters or veterinarians. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become available.
