Tupelo man arrested on armed robbery charge

TUPELO, Mississippi — Tupelo police arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Ida B. Wells Street, authorities said. A report filed April 23 states a victim told officers a suspect approached on foot, held him at gunpoint and took his property.

Police arrested Jaquarius J. Cherry of Tupelo on April 27 and charged him with one count of armed robbery, the report said. On April 28, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Sumner ordered Cherry held without bond, and the case will be presented to the Lee County grand jury.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections has placed a hold on Cherry, according to the report. A DOC hold can affect custody and transfer while state officials determine any additional legal or administrative steps, officials say in similar cases.

Armed robberies are felonies that typically prompt a grand jury review to decide whether to return an indictment. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
