Starkville families receive Habitat for Humanity homes
Two Starkville families learned they had been selected to receive homes from Starkville Habitat for Humanity, the Starkville Police Department said on its Facebook page. Corporal Kenya Bibbs was surprised with the news that she had been chosen to receive a Habitat for Humanity home, and the Bryant family also was notified they will be awarded a home. The department said the announcements were kept secret until the reveal and officers were present with family members to share the moment.
Habitat for Humanity is an international nonprofit that helps build and renovate homes for low-income families, working through local affiliates that often rely on volunteer labor and community partnerships. Starkville Habitat for Humanity is the local affiliate involved in selecting and supporting partner families in the area.
The police department said the events showed what can happen when a community comes together to help families put down roots and build a better future. Affordable homeownership initiatives such as Habitat projects can provide long-term stability for recipients and broader community benefits.
