Rankin County deputies receive lifesaving awards
Sheriff Bryan Bailey and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department said in a Facebook post that they awarded multiple Lifesaving Awards to deputies and responders after separate medical emergencies in Rankin County, Mississippi.
Staff Sgt. Demetrius Hayes received an award after rendering aid to an individual suffering substantial blood loss, the department said. Hayes, a supervisor assigned to the Patrol Division, provided care the post said helped the patient survive the injury.
EOC responder and Reserve Deputy Brett Ishee was honored after responding to an apparent opioid overdose and administering care and reversal medication that led to the victim’s recovery, the post said. Ishee was pictured with Sheriff Bailey and EOC Director Brian Grantham in the department’s post.
The department also recognized a narcotics investigator who responded to a separate opioid-overdose-related incident, assessed the situation, administered reversal medication and continued first aid until medical personnel arrived, the post said.
The awards highlight the role first responders play in life-threatening emergencies and the use of reversal medication when opioids are suspected. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
