On Aug. 11, 2026, about 8:15 p.m., deputies with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported stabbing and/or shooting in the 6,000 block of Magnolia Progress Road and found a victim with both a gunshot wound and stab wounds, the sheriff’s office said. The victim was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies and investigators on scene quickly developed a suspect and a possible direction of travel and recovered a firearm believed to have been used, the office said. About an hour and a half after the initial call, deputies located and arrested LaJarvus Osby of Magnolia hiding in a wooded area off Lang Road. The arrest involved the Pike County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Division and Drone Division.
“Violent crime will not be tolerated in Pike County. When something like this happens, we are going to throw every available asset this Sheriff’s Office has at the case. Our deputies and investigators immediately went to work, our K-9 and drone teams were deployed, and approximately an hour and a half later, the suspect was in custody. That’s how it’s done. I’m proud of the men and women of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and the teamwork they displayed tonight. We remain committed to aggressively fighting violent crime and protecting the citizens of Pike County,” Sheriff Bryant Wally Jones said.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Office is the county’s primary law enforcement agency and said it deployed multiple units to quickly locate the suspect. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law, the office added. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
