Scrapin’ the Coast prompts traffic diversions on Highway 90

Officials said in a Facebook post that Scrapin’ the Coast is happening this weekend and motorists should expect increased traffic and possible delays across the area. Drivers were urged to plan accordingly and allow extra travel time.

The post said Highway 90 from Cowan Road to Debuys Road will have one lane open for eastbound and westbound traffic while the other lane will be reserved for first responders only. Officials warned that violators will be cited and vehicles may be towed.

If heavy congestion occurs, traffic diversions will be implemented. East-west traffic will be diverted north on Cowan Road to Interstate 10, and southbound traffic from Interstate 10 will be diverted west onto Seaway Road, the post said.

The notice also reminded motorists that Miss. Code § 63-7-105 prohibits operation of “squatted” vehicles in Mississippi, defined as passenger vehicles with the front fender raised four or more inches higher than the rear due to suspension, frame or chassis modifications. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
