Scott County law enforcement, firefighters compete in blood drive

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is supporting the Scott County Chapter of Guns ’N Hoses in a friendly blood drive competition between local law enforcement officers and firefighters on Monday, July 7, and Wednesday, July 9.

Donations will be accepted from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. both days at Cats Cave on Highway 80 in Forest on July 7 and at Fairway Foods on Highway 80 in Morton on July 9, the sheriff’s office said.

The announcement said the drives respond to a critical summer need for blood to treat medical emergencies, accidents and other unforeseen tragedies. Donors are encouraged to give a pint in support of either the Guns team representing Scott County law enforcement or the Hoses team representing Scott County firefighters.

The team that collects the most donations will earn a trophy and bragging rights, the statement said, adding that the true beneficiaries are patients who receive life-saving transfusions. The notice was signed by Mike Lee, sheriff; Brad Ellis, chief deputy; and Joshua Thames, public information officer.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
