UMMC expands Oxford health, nursing programs to meet workforce demand
The University of Mississippi Medical Center said it has expanded key programs in its School of Health Related Professions and its School of Nursing in Oxford to position both specialties to meet growing demand in the health care workforce.
The center said the program growth is intended to strengthen training opportunities for students seeking careers in allied health and nursing and to support health care providers across the region. The schools in Oxford are part of UMMC’s broader educational mission to prepare clinicians, educators and researchers.
Officials said the expansion could help address longstanding workforce needs by increasing the pipeline of qualified practitioners who can staff hospitals, clinics and community health programs. Expanded academic programs often include additional classroom capacity, clinical placements and faculty resources, which contribute to workforce supply and local access to care.
University officials did not provide further details in the initial announcement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
