Safe Site Tent opens Saturday at Square to help parents, students

A Safe Site Tent will open at 6 p.m. Saturday across from Funky’s on the Square to offer assistance to parents, students and visitors, organizers said in a Facebook post.

The tent is described as a place to get help, ask questions or find directions. The post said people can meet Downtown Unit officers, learn more about the Square and use the tent as a resource if they need a ride, are trying to find their group or need to recharge a phone.

Organizers said the priority is creating a safe, connected community and that they want new students, parents and other visitors to feel comfortable approaching officers for assistance. The Facebook post encouraged people attending Saturday night activities on the Square to stop by the tent starting at 6 p.m.

Community safety tents are commonly used during public events to provide information and immediate support to attendees. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
