Pike County sheriff urges use of anonymous tip site

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page that residents can use www.p3tips.com to provide information completely anonymously, the office said. The post, attributed to Sheriff Wally Jones, included photos but did not provide additional details about any specific investigation.

The sheriff’s office is the primary law enforcement agency for Pike County and is responsible for patrol, investigations and community safety, according to general descriptions of sheriff’s offices. Sheriff Wally Jones leads the department, which uses public outreach to encourage community cooperation.

P3tips is a third-party platform law enforcement agencies use to collect anonymous tips from the public. Encouraging use of anonymous reporting can help agencies gather leads while protecting the identity of tipsters, a practice some departments use to improve community reporting and public safety.

The Facebook post provided the web address as a way for residents to submit information but offered no further specifics. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
