Pike County Sheriff partners with church, Homeland Security for active-shooter training
Pike County Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with Felder’s Church and the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security to provide training on civilian response to active-shooter events across Pike County, according to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office.
The post identified Jim Brinson as director and adviser for the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security and said he conducted the training session aimed at preparing civilians to respond during active-shooter incidents. Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones said, “When I took this office, I made a promise to the citizens of Pike County that I would do everything in my power to keep them safe. This training is a part of that promise.”
The sheriff’s office thanked Felder’s Church Pastor Abram Atchison, the congregation and Mrs. Tara Dupree for their support, and the Women of Felder Church for providing breakfast and lunch. The post was issued by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Department.
Such community-based training is part of broader efforts to improve public safety by giving residents information and resources to respond in emergencies. This initiative, the post said, reflects the sheriff’s office’s commitment to preparedness and collaboration with local partners. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
