Pike County deputies visit Camp Sunshine

Pike County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Damian Gatlin, K-9 Deputy Steven Melton and K-9 Sasha recently visited Camp Sunshine in Pike County, bringing snacks and refreshments and spending time with campers.

During the visit, Gatlin let campers explore sheriff’s office vehicles and activate emergency sirens, and deputies answered questions about law enforcement in a hands-on setting. K-9 Sasha proved a crowd favorite as children met the dog and posed for photos, the office said.

“At the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, we believe building trust begins with building relationships. Spending time with the wonderful children at Camp Sunshine is about more than a visit—it’s about creating smiles, making memories, and showing our young people that law enforcement officers genuinely care about them and their families,” Chief Deputy Damian Gatlin said.

The sheriff’s office said the visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with local youth and families. The account of the event was provided by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Department. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
