Hinds County deputies arrest man on Pine Tree Lane after homeowner tip

Terry, Mississippi — Hinds County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 31-year-old man this morning after responding to a tip from a homeowner, the agency said in a Facebook post.

Patrol deputies moved to the 1000 block of Pine Tree Lane and took Joshua Corell Smith into custody, the post said. Smith was wearing an ankle monitor and is on parole from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies recovered a stolen handgun at the scene, and Smith faces charges that include convicted felon in possession of a stolen firearm and auto burglary, the post said. The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office credited the homeowner’s timely tip and the rapid response of patrol deputies for the arrest.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency serving Hinds County, which includes the state capital, Jackson. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
