Picayune police thank partners, announce May 7 Law Enforcement Torch Run

Picayune Police Department said in a Facebook post that it thanks community partners that participated in Autism Awareness Month and reminded residents of an upcoming Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on May 7 at 8:00 a.m.

The department named Southside Elementary, ARC of Picayune and the ABA Clinic as partners that reached out to include students and clients in activities. The post said officers enjoyed spending time with participants and getting photos with everyone.

Autism Awareness Month, observed each April, prompts schools, advocacy groups and public agencies to spotlight autism spectrum disorder, promote inclusion and connect families with services. Local events such as those organized with the police department aim to build relationships between law enforcement and community members.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a regular series of events that raises awareness and support for the Special Olympics. Picayune police encouraged anyone who would like to attend to meet at the entrance to Crosby Commons on May 7.
