The Oxford Police Department posted on Facebook seeking help to find a lost dog named Murphy who may be in the South 18th Street area of Oxford, Mississippi.
The department asked anyone who spots the dog to call the owner at 662-927-1990. The post thanked residents for keeping an eye out for “our four legged neighbors.”
Local police agencies and animal control offices commonly use social media to share lost-pet alerts because they can quickly reach many residents in a targeted area. Community tips often help reunite pets with owners faster than formal shelter intake alone.
Residents who see a loose dog are advised to exercise caution, avoid sudden movements that could frighten the animal, and contact the owner or local animal control rather than attempting to chase the pet. Reuniting lost pets with owners reduces the risk of traffic incidents, animal stress and shelter crowding.
