Oxford police mounted patrol practices precision drills

Oxford Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit sharpened its skills this morning with a series of precision drills, the department said in a social media post.

The department said the exercises included tight turns, confined maneuvering and backing as officers and horses worked to maintain control and responsiveness. The department shared video of the training on its Facebook page.

Mounted patrols are often visible to the public at festivals, football games and while patrolling the Square, and departments use them for crowd management, community engagement and patrols in areas that are difficult for vehicles to access. Training helps maintain safety for both officers and horses and ensures units can operate effectively in crowded or confined spaces.

Local police agencies frequently post training updates to show preparedness and build public trust. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
