Hinds County mounted unit patrols downtown Jackson, visits JSU concert

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook that its mounted unit patrolled downtown Jackson on horseback late yesterday evening and spent time at the JSU “Thee Countryboy Experience” live concert at Cathead Distillery.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Hinds County, which includes Mississippi’s capital, Jackson. Mounted units are a long-standing element of many U.S. law enforcement agencies and are often used for visible patrols, crowd presence and community outreach.

Jackson State University, commonly known as JSU, is a public university located in Jackson. Cathead Distillery is a downtown venue that hosts live events. The sheriff’s office posted the patrol detail on social media as part of its community engagement activities.

Visible patrols such as mounted units can boost public safety presence and foster interactions between officers and residents at public events. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
