Mounted patrol joins Jackson candlelight vigil for fallen officers

The Oxford Police Department said its Mounted Patrol Unit traveled to Jackson on Tuesday to participate in the 16th Annual Fallen Officers Memorial Candlelight Vigil during National Police Week.

The department said the ceremony included a riderless horse tribute honoring Mississippi’s fallen officers. The event brings together law enforcement agencies across the state to remember colleagues who died in the line of duty.

National Police Week, observed annually in May, honors law enforcement officers who have died while serving. Mounted patrol units typically provide crowd management, public safety support and ceremonial presence at memorial events, and participation underscores interagency solidarity and community support for survivors.

The department posted on its Facebook page, “To the families who carry this loss every day: we stand with you.” The post included hashtags marking National Police Week and remembrance of fallen heroes. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
