Oxford Police Department said it will host Therese Apel’s Media Management for First Responders course Aug. 17-19 at the department’s headquarters, 9 Industrial Park Drive in Oxford, Mississippi.
The department said the session is recommended for personnel who assist with their agency’s social media, public relations or media relations work. The post encouraged staff who handle communications to mark their calendars and consider attending.
Media management training is increasingly important for public safety agencies as social media and 24-hour news cycles change how incidents are reported and how departments communicate with the public. Such training typically addresses crisis communications, message coordination and strategies for working with reporters and the community.
