Oxford board honors Officer Johnny Sneed on retirement
The Oxford Board of Aldermen honored Officer Johnny Sneed with a retirement proclamation for more than 26 years in law enforcement, according to a post on the Oxford Police Department’s Facebook page. The recognition came at a meeting of the board, which oversees city government in Oxford, Mississippi.
Sneed began his law enforcement career in 1998 with the Batesville Police Department and joined the Oxford Police Department in 2005, the post said. During his time with Oxford, he served in a wide range of assignments, the department said.
The Facebook post noted that Sneed became a familiar presence around Oxford’s town square and earned the unofficial title “Mayor of the Square.” The post also described him as the department’s undefeated cornhole champion, a lighthearted distinction celebrated by colleagues.
Oxford is home to the University of Mississippi and its downtown square serves as a focal point for community events, making long-serving officers such as Sneed prominent figures in local public safety and community relations. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
