Officials honor man who aided shooting victim

Vicksburg police leaders publicly recognized a man who stepped in to help a woman after she was shot, praising his courage and quick action during a crisis.

Chief Larry Burns and Deputy Chiefs Tommy Curtis and Charlie Hill met personally with Robert to thank him for attempting to render aid to Clarinda Turpin after she had been shot, according to a post from the department’s social media account.

The officers commended Robert for his compassion and willingness to act, saying heroism is not defined by a title or a uniform but by the choice to help others when it matters most. The department used the acknowledgement to highlight community solidarity and service before self.

Officials asked that the family and loved ones of Turpin remain in the community’s thoughts and prayers as the situation remains sensitive. This account provided limited details about the incident; we will provide more information as it becomes available.
