Official appoints Brad McCullouch as Seventh Circuit district attorney
An appointing official named Brad McCullouch district attorney for the Seventh Circuit Court District, which covers Hinds County, and called a special election for Nov. 3, 2026, the official said in a Facebook post.
The post said the qualifying deadline for candidates is Aug. 20, 2026, and that the winner of the special election will serve the remainder of the term. The post said the move aims to preserve continuity in prosecutions and limit disruption in the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office.
According to the post, McCullouch has served in the Hinds County district attorney’s office since 2023, most recently as first assistant district attorney. The post said Senior Circuit Judge Winston Kidd temporarily appointed McCullouch on July 1 to lead the office during the transition. It added that much of McCullouch’s legal career has been devoted to prosecuting criminals, including work as a special assistant attorney general.
