Ocean Springs makes sandbag locations available
Ocean Springs officials are making sandbag distribution locations available to help residents prepare for potential flooding, a post on the city’s Facebook page said. The post directs residents to an attached graphic listing distribution sites and cautions that some locations may require people to bring their own shovels to fill sandbags.
Sandbags can reduce the amount of water entering buildings and help protect property during heavy rain or coastal flooding, though they are not a guarantee against significant inundation. Local emergency managers often distribute sandbags before forecasted storms or heavy rainfall to give residents a simple, short-term mitigation option.
The city urged residents to plan ahead, take necessary precautions to protect their property, stay weather aware and use caution while traveling. Officials also advised people to continue monitoring local updates for changing conditions.
Ocean Springs is a coastal community on the Mississippi Gulf Coast that periodically issues flood preparedness guidance to residents. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
