Mississippi reports storm, flood damage totals

Gov. Tate Reeves said Monday that the State of Mississippi continues to respond to severe storms and major flooding alongside local, state and federal partners as damage assessments remain ongoing.

The state posted initial totals showing homes destroyed: seven; major damage: nine; minor damage: 13; and affected homes: 47. Businesses reported major damage to three properties and minor damage to six. Farms had one major loss. Public roads reported four destroyed, four with major damage and 42 with minor damage. Bridges had two major and one minor; two public buildings reported minor damage, the post said.

Three EPAs are reporting damage, the post said. Two rivers were in the moderate flood stage — Leaf River near McClain and Pascagoula River at Graham Ferry — and 15 rivers were in the minor flood stage, including the Big Black River near Bentonia, Biloxi River near Lyman, multiple points on the Chickasawhay and Pearl rivers, Strong River at D’Lo and Wolf River around Gulfport.

The state warned additional severe weather and flash flooding are possible and urged residents to stay weather aware and safe. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
