Lee County inmate work center washes school buses for upcoming year
LEE COUNTY, Miss. — The Lee County State/County Inmate Work Center is washing school buses in partnership with the Lee County School District and the Tupelo Public School District as the districts prepare for the upcoming school year, Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said in a Facebook post that included photos.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the effort is part of routine summer preparations aimed at getting buses ready to transport students. The post credited inmates working at the state/county facility with performing the cleaning under supervision.
Inmate work programs like the one in Lee County commonly provide supervised labor for public projects, offering local governments a way to maintain vehicles and facilities while keeping costs down and providing structured activity for participants.
The collaboration underscores a broader partnership between law enforcement and local school systems to ensure safe, reliable transportation for students as classes resume. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
