Mississippi digital forensics director wins Digital Investigation Catalyst Award
Wayne Cantrell, director of digital forensics for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, received the Digital Investigation Catalyst Award from the Law&Crime Network’s JUSTYS Awards, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department said the honor recognizes a leader in the digital investigations space — someone who not only keeps pace with evolving technology but helps drive it forward.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety oversees the state’s public safety operations, including the Highway Patrol and other divisions that rely increasingly on digital evidence. Digital forensics units examine electronic devices and data to support criminal and administrative investigations.
Department officials said Cantrell has worked to strengthen collaboration and expand resources, efforts the post said are transforming how investigations are conducted and making a lasting impact across the field of digital investigations. Recognition from national programs such as the JUSTYS Awards can raise the profile of forensic units and underscore the growing role of technology in law enforcement.
