Detective Scott Hollowell wins Blue Line Award after stopping scam
Oxford Police Department awarded Detective Scott Hollowell its Blue Line Award after he helped stop an ongoing financial scam that targeted an elderly community member, the department said.
After taking the initial report, Detective Hollowell worked to halt the fraud, protect the victim and assist in the recovery process, the department said in a social media post. Because of his persistence and compassion, the post said, the victim has recovered more than half of the money lost, an outcome the department described as rare in scam cases.
The department said the Blue Line Award recognizes officers who go above and beyond in service to the community. Financial scams, particularly those targeting older adults, remain a frequent concern for law enforcement and consumer protection groups because funds are often difficult to recover.
Oxford Police Department thanked Hollowell for serving with wisdom and compassion and noted the importance of reporting suspected scams promptly. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
