Facebook post denies governor trying to force Greenwood closure
A Facebook post on a local account denied claims that the governor is trying to force the closure of Greenwood, Mississippi, calling the allegation “FALSE” and saying similar accusations targeted other politicians in prior years.
The post said those earlier targets included Jim Hood in 2019, Brandon Presley in 2023 and Hob Bryan in 2026. It said the commenter has held numerous meetings with state health officials and providers and described those meetings as part of routine efforts to address health care access.
The post listed meetings with the Mississippi Department of Health, the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, the Division of Medicaid, physicians, federally qualified health centers and “hospitals serving 75% of the Medicaid population,” and said the person met with other Republican governors. The post also said the writer had a “secret meeting” with Democrat Sen. Hob Bryan and with Sens. Boyd and Hopson.
Greenwood is a city in the Mississippi Delta where changes in health care services can affect access for many residents. The post framed the meetings as standard coordination among officials and providers. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
