MHP assists MDOT in clearing I-55 near mile marker 263

Lt. Stewart with the Mississippi Highway Patrol says his agency’s units are continuing to assist the Mississippi Department of Transportation in clearing the roadway on Interstate 55 near mile marker 263.

The update said troopers are on scene working with MDOT to remove obstructions and make the highway safe for motorists. Lt. Stewart urged drivers to use caution in the area and follow directions from emergency personnel.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol enforces state traffic laws and responds to crashes and roadway hazards, while the Mississippi Department of Transportation handles road maintenance and clearance operations. Interstate 55 is a major north-south corridor in the state that carries both commuter and commercial traffic, so incidents that block lanes can cause significant delays and safety risks.

Motorists traveling through the area should expect possible slowdowns and consider alternate routes if feasible. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
