Seven-vehicle crash shuts I-59 northbound at mile marker 62

A seven-vehicle crash occurred Tuesday at 1:55 p.m. on Interstate 59 northbound at mile marker 62, shutting all northbound lanes, a traffic notice posted on Facebook said.

The post said traffic is being diverted at Exit 60 and emergency responders are on scene working the incident. Only minor injuries have been reported so far, the notice said.

Interstate 59 is a major north-south route in the southeastern United States that carries both commercial and commuter traffic. Multi-vehicle collisions on such corridors can produce lengthy backups, increase the risk of secondary crashes and disrupt regional travel and freight movement.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes if possible and to use caution if travel through the area is unavoidable. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
