Mississippi moves Disaster Survivor Assistance centers to new counties
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said in a Facebook post that Disaster Survivor Assistance centers in Calhoun, DeSoto, Humphreys, Tishomingo and Tate counties will close at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2.
The agency said new Disaster Survivor Assistance centers will open Monday, May 4, at 8 a.m. in Attala, Grenada, Holmes, Lee, Marshall, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tippah and Union counties. The post said Disaster Recovery Centers will remain open in Alcorn, Benton, Lafayette, Leflore, Panola and Yazoo counties.
DSA teams typically go into affected communities to help residents register for disaster assistance, provide information about recovery resources and connect survivors with federal and state programs. Disaster Recovery Centers serve as longer-term, in-person locations where people can get detailed help with applications and resources.
The timing and location changes reflect the shifting needs of recovery operations as response moves from initial outreach to more sustained recovery services. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
