Hinds County Sheriff’s Office opens Citizens Academy Aug. 3-10

Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that its Citizens Academy returns Aug. 3-10, inviting residents from across Hinds County to take part in the weeklong program. The agency said this is the second Citizens Academy it has offered this year.

The office said the one-week course will provide a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at how the sheriff’s office operates, giving participants an opportunity to engage directly with staff, learn how the criminal justice system works and observe daily responsibilities, challenges and commitments of the agency.

Officials said spaces are limited and urged residents to register. The application is available on the Hinds County website and was linked in the sheriff’s office post: https://www.hindscountyms.com/sites/default/files/citizens_academy_application_0.pdf.

Hinds County, in central Mississippi and home to the state capital of Jackson, has used community academies to increase public understanding of law enforcement roles and procedures. Such programs aim to improve transparency and strengthen relations between residents and the sheriff’s office.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
