Lowndes County man arrested on kidnapping charge after SWAT operation

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. — Authorities arrested 33-year-old Emerson Samael Roderiquez on a kidnapping charge after a woman reported she had been held against her will for several days, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were dispatched June 17, 2026, to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle after the victim arrived seeking medical attention, the sheriff’s office said. The victim told investigators she had been held by Roderiquez from June 14 until she reached the hospital and that he used a 9mm handgun to prevent her from leaving, threatened to kill her and fired the weapon on two occasions, the statement said.

Based on the investigation, arrest and search warrants were issued and members of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team went to Roderiquez’s residence on Mike Parra Road in Columbus to execute the warrants, the office said. After multiple attempts to call the suspect out, deputies deployed chemical agents into the home. Roderiquez exited and surrendered peacefully, and deputies recovered a 9mm handgun, the sheriff’s office said.

Roderiquez remains in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center; no bond has been set and additional charges may be forthcoming, the sheriff’s office said. Sheriff Eddie Hawkins commended deputies, investigators and SWAT personnel and said victim safety remains a top priority.
