JPD ends week 4 of 71st recruit class with interviewing training

The Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post that Week 4 has come to a close for its 71st recruit class. The department said the day’s instruction focused on interviewing techniques and was led by Jordan Garard, identified in the post as “Accident Investigations.”

The department did not provide additional details in the post. Police recruit classes typically include classroom instruction and practical exercises designed to prepare new officers for patrol duties, investigations and community interaction.

Training in interviewing techniques is a core skill for law enforcement because it helps officers collect accurate witness statements, preserve evidence and conduct investigations that can withstand legal scrutiny. Such instruction also emphasizes ethical interviewing practices and building community trust, which departments say are critical to effective policing.

The 71st recruit class marks the continuation of the department’s regular training cycles as it prepares new personnel for field assignments. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
