Jackson police join event supporting Martin Shields Jr. Foundation

The Jackson Police Department said on Facebook it joined the family of Deputy Martin Shields Jr., Sheriff Tyree Jones and community members on Saturday to support the Martin Shields Jr. Foundation — Empowering Futures Through Education.

The department said it was honored to take part in the gathering. The post appeared on the police department’s official Facebook page and thanked those who attended.

The Martin Shields Jr. Foundation — Empowering Futures Through Education, by its name, focuses on promoting educational opportunities. Community-based foundations that honor public safety figures often provide scholarships, mentorship and other programs aimed at helping young people pursue schooling and career paths.

Local law enforcement agencies frequently participate in such events to strengthen ties with residents and support initiatives that benefit youth and families. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
