Deputies investigate aggravated domestic assault in Columbus

Lowndes County deputies responded about 5:00 p.m. to an incident in the Vann Court area of Columbus after a 37-year-old person was found with stab wounds, officials said. The victim was airlifted to a Tupelo hospital and is listed in critical condition.

A 20-year-old suspect was taken to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center for questioning, deputies said. No charges have been filed, and authorities described the case as an active, ongoing investigation.

Aggravated domestic assault investigations typically involve crime-scene processing, interviews and coordination with prosecutors as investigators determine whether to seek formal charges. Law enforcement agencies often hold suspects for questioning while gathering evidence and statements.

The incident underscores concerns about domestic violence in communities and the resources local agencies use to respond to violent calls. Columbus is the county seat of Lowndes County, and Tupelo is the closest regional medical center that handles critical trauma cases.

This remains a developing story. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
