Hattiesburg police investigate aggravated assault on South 10th Avenue

Hattiesburg police are investigating an aggravated assault after an individual was shot Wednesday evening on South 10th Avenue, the department said.

Officers responded at approximately 5:29 p.m. July 29 to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of South 10th Avenue, the Hattiesburg Police Department said in a Facebook post. Investigators learned an individual inside a silver Honda had been shot in the leg.

The victim was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, the department said. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim and the suspected shooter knew each other, and investigators believe the incident was isolated.

Police said there is no indication of an ongoing threat. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hattiesburg Police Department at 601-544-7900 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP. Crime Stoppers allows callers to remain anonymous when providing tips.
