The Jackson Police Department and the Jackson Fire Department teamed up to compete for a worthy cause, the police department said in a Facebook post announcing the event.
The post described a friendly rivalry — with police seeking ‘‘revenge’’ after a previous basketball loss to firefighters — that moved to the patio and the kitchen for the fundraiser. Sponsors included Wayne-Sanderson Farms, Sam’s Club and Walmart, which provided condiments and a 28-inch Blackstone griddle as a prize, the post said. The fire department contributed pork butts for the competition.
The event benefited the American Cancer Society’s Gertrude C. Ford Hope Lodge in Jackson, Mississippi. The Hope Lodge is a nonprofit that provides free lodging and support for cancer patients age 12 and older and their caregivers who travel to Jackson for treatment, offering private rooms, kitchens, dining areas and transportation to medical appointments, the post said.
On behalf of Chief Rashall Brackney and the men and women of the Jackson Police Department, the post said, “we count it an absolute pleasure and honor to serve!!” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
