Jackson police chief prioritizes grants, technology

The Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post that Chief RaShall Brackney is prioritizing efforts to ensure the department has the tools and resources needed to enhance service to the community.

That work includes investments in training, technology and other critical resources that department officials say will strengthen JPD’s ability to serve and protect. The post said Brackney announced that one of her first hires after assuming leadership would be a dedicated grant writer.

JPD identified Dr. Mary Manogin as the department’s grant writer and said she has been pursuing funding opportunities on behalf of the department. The post said Manogin’s efforts are already producing results by helping secure resources intended to enhance public safety and improve services for Jackson residents.

Grant writers typically research funding sources, prepare applications and manage awarded funds, which can help police departments pay for training, equipment and technology without relying solely on local budgets. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
