Jackson City Council recognizes retiring police captain

During yesterday’s council meeting, Councilwoman Lashia Brown-Thomas and the Jackson City Council recognized Captain Mark Hodges, who recently retired from the Jackson Police Department after 36 years of service, the department said in a Facebook post.

The post said members of the department’s Traffic/Motor Unit were present to express their support and commemorate Hodges’ tenure. The Facebook entry included photos of the recognition, according to the department.

The Jackson Police Department provides law enforcement and public safety services to residents of Jackson, and its Traffic/Motor Unit typically handles traffic enforcement, crash investigation and roadway safety efforts. Long-serving officers such as Hodges often carry institutional knowledge and community relationships that police chiefs and city leaders cite as valuable when marking retirements.

The post did not include further details about any departmental succession or retirement events. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
